Thermal Imaging Camera

The thermal imaging camera, funded by Winslow Town Council, is now available for residents to use.  The camera will enable you to see where your home is losing heat inside and out. You can then make informed choices about the kind of remedial action which is most appropriate; it could be improved use of draught excluders or large-scale change such as insulation or new windows. Advice on what to spot (albeit with a different camera) can be found here.

You can book the camera by emailing greenerwinslow@gmail.com. The camera is generally best used when there is at least a 10 degree difference between the temperature inside and outside a house.

St Laurence Repair Café

Have you been to the St Laurence Repair Cafe yet? It is held on the 3rd Saturday of most months.

You can have your household items mended by a friendly, local person. That is much better for the environment than buying a new item and throwing the old one away? You can take along knives for sharpening, bicycles, electrical goods and textiles for repairing.

As well as this you can have refreshments while you wait. There is no charge but donations for mended items are welcome.

Coronation Eco Garden

The area between the cycle path and the Little Horwood Rd is owned by Bucks Council and they chopped quite a few trees down a year or so ago. We are using this as an experimental area to try and increase biodiversity. During the Coronation celebrations volunteers helped to clear some of the weeds, pile up the wood and sow wildflower seeds. The area already has shrubs such as hazel, cornus, elder and snowberry and includes plants such as white dead nettle, cleavers, and nettle.

Tree planting at the allotment field March 19th

On Sunday 19th March we planted additional trees, given by the Woodland Trust, at the allotment field in Winslow. We are managing the trees by cutting the grass around them to stop them being smothered. Our new copse is doing very well.

Biodiversity at Furzedown School

In October 2022 Headteacher, Alison Rooney, and Business Leader, Linda Patterson, gave us a talk on their plans for  a complete refurbishment of their school grounds. Their exciting plans provide plenty of opportunity for improving biodiversity and making the grounds more exciting for school children.  Furze Down School has large grounds making it an important site for carbon reduction and biodiversity in Winslow.
